Keep Your Grass Green with Lawn Sprinkler Systems

One of the most unattractive sights is a lawn filled with unsightly dead patches. This is why lawn sprinkler systems are so popular. After all, with lawn sprinkler systems, even the driest summer months do not need to have a negative effect on your lawn.

There are several types of lawn sprinkler systems to choose from and each system has advantages and disadvantages. The most common system is one that uses pvc piping. This system is very strong and long lasting, but is hard to install. You will need to dig trenches several feet apart over your entire lawn. After this, you will need to lay the pvc piping. Before you recover the pipes with dirt, be sure that they are properly connected. There is nothing worse than putting your sprinkler heads in place, covering up the pipes, and turning on your system for the first time, only to discover it is leaking like a sieve.

If digging deep trenches to lay pipe and install lawn sprinkler systems sounds like way too much work, you may want to look for a system that uses a thin black tube that can be placed just beneath the surface of your sod, instead. To install this system, you will need to use an edging tool to cut a line in the sod. Peel back the sod and slide the tubing into place. Tamp the sod back into place and you’re ready to go.

Besides choosing one of the lawn sprinkler systems, you will need to take a look at the different sprinkler heads. You can shop for rotor heads, oscillating heads, stationary heads, or a combination of all three types. Rotor heads are completely adjustable. They can water anywhere from fifteen to thirty feet away from themselves and can be set to turn from forty five to three hundred sixty degrees. Oscillating heads act in a manner similar to an oscillating fan. They rotate back and forth to water a section of the lawn. Stationary heads water in a circular pattern.

Once you choose the sprinkler heads for your lawn sprinkler systems, you will need to decide whether you want any other accessories. Automatic water timers can water your lawn on a schedule, so you don’t even have to worry about turning them on and off each day. Fertilizer bottles make it easy for you to keep your lawn healthy and strong.
